Note: Sometimes he was known as James Edwin Adams and other papers say Edwin James Adams.
Adams, Robert {I1812} (b. 31 MAY 1783, d. 29 JUN 1854)
Note: In his father's 1825 will,Robert Adams, unlike his other brothers, was specifically left 50 acres lying on the north side of the Cold Spring Turnpike adjoining Joseph Parks land running along said turnpike far enough to take a Northwardly course to meet John Roes(?Rowe's) land to include fifty acres of land.
Though all his brothers lived in(now)Putnam Valley,Robert Adams lived first in Carmel(next to Jason)and then in Kent, probably on Adams Street which extended west into Kent. After his mother leased him land in Phillips in 1826,he lived briefly in(now)Putnam Valley, but was listed(1830/1) in Kent.Robert Adams moved to Orange Twsp,Delaware Co.Ohio 1831/2.Several of his children were married there. Not found in the 1840 census anywhere.Robert returned to NY by 1840/1 where he and his wife settled her inheirtance in spring of 1841,returning to Whitley Co.IN.by the fall.
***************************************************
Robert Adams(1783-1854 and Chloe Shaw(1786-1861)
Robert Adams was probably names for his grandfather, Robert Dingee. though the names of both their fathers were Gilbert. Robert and Chloe (Shaw) Adams didn't name a son Gilbert nor was a grandchildred named as such. Their only descendant named gilbert was their great grandson, Gilbert Terman. Nor was the name Rachel commemorated beyond Robert and Chloe's first born child. Though the Gilbert Adams family was generally Baptist in Putnam Co., no church record of Robert or his family found in any New York church recorde. They were strongly Methodist in Indiana.
In Putnam county, Robert-quite seperate from his brothers- lived in several different locations in Putnam county. First seen in Carmel next to Uncle Jason Adams, then in Kent-but not next to the Gilbert Shaws property. Robert went to court twice against his brother Moses R. Adams, first in 1814 on a charge of trespress, assault and battery and again in 1817. In 1823 both tallmadge and Jefferson Townsend took Robert to court on Charges of trepress and slander. He went to court as quardian of his then minor son Allen in 1828. Robert's father left him 50 acres in Putnam County-location spelled outon the north sife of the Cold Spring Turnpike-his brothers received land jointly. All of gilbert Adams land purchases were south of the turnpike/ His mother Rachel (Dingee) Adams leased him some land in Putnam Valley. All his children were born and raised in Putnam county NY.
Enumerated by the 1830 census in Kent, Robert and Chloe moved to Delaware Co.,OH probably with the family migration. In June 1831 Robert was "of Kent Putnam Co.,NY" but by April 1832,he was of "Orange township Delaware Co.,OH" as per two Putnam deeds. Four of his children were married there: Mariah in 1832, Julia in 1839, Levi in 1838 and Allen in 1841. Robert evidently bought some land in Orange township(18-3 section 1), since there is a deed to Philip DeLano(recorded 1/9/39) and another to Peter Lichty(recorded 1/6/39). The sign at the Levi Adams farm said that Robert Adams moved to Whitley County in 1830 buying land for $2.50 and acre. Perhaps he bought the land sometime around 1832 but didn't move there until about 1842 when his daughter was married there.
Not found in any 1840 census, Robert went back east to Putnam Co. in May 1841. Chloe's father, Gilbert Shaw died about 1840/41 inestate, leaving a widow Mary who died before 1850. The Shaw estate was settled by quitclaims among Chloe and her five siblings Robert and Chloe returned to Indiana where he transferred 40 acres in Troy Whitley Co.IN to his daighter Eliza Hartsock in August 1841. After Robert's death the children transferred acreage to their brother John Q. Adams, presumably for the care of their mother.
Adams, Mabee Dingee {I1813} (b. 1804, d. ?)
Note: In the 1840 census of Ohio, Mabee D. Adams is listed in Berlin twp., Delaware County.,Ohio, but not in the 1850 census. Have been unable to find anymore about him. His wife Rachel was in Marion County, living with her sister Leah Merrill.
After her sister Leah died she married Widower Judge John Merrill who was Leah's husband.
Mabee (Mabah) D. Adams moved to Delaware County with his mother and probably his sister and her husband in 1832/3. He and his mother bought land there in 1834 from his sister Zillah Rundall's widower. This land was bought and sold and leased but finally sold to Adah and Munger Adams. Mabah and Rachel (Turney) Adams probably left Delaware county, c.1842, he dying before 1850 (no g.s. found in Delaware or Marion County,OH)
Murphy, Rebecca Ellen {I1842} (b. 15 OCT 1866, d. 7 SEP 1950)
Note: Rebecca Ellen "Becky" Ellinwood
Grandma Becky as she was known in Claibourne where she was born and lived all her life but afew years. She was a very petite little lady about 5 feet tall with grey hair rolled in a bun on the back of her head. When she combed it out it was down to her waiste. I use to watch her comb it and then she would twist it around her hand and pin it up on her head at the back.
I use to stay with Grandma quite abit on week ends and summers. She was very strick. I spent one full year with her and went to the two room school house in Claibourne just down the road north of grandma's.
Grandma and I use to sit after home work was done, with the lights off and watch the neighbors as if there were that many people in Claibourne. The lights were coal oil for many years, till Daddy finally had electricity put in for Grandma, but then she was afraid to use them because it might start a fire. She had a pot belly stove in the living room which she burnt corn cobs and coal in. A wood and coal stove in the kitchen to cook on and hand ringer washing machine that you had to stand and wring out the clothes. The old flat iron I use to help with the ironing I have it yet. You had to sit it on the kitchen stove to get it hot to iron.
Also Grandma use to make the best Tomato butter and custard pie.
After I was married and after my daughter was born in January 1950, I use to take her to see Grandma and she would sit in her little rocker and put Karen between her legs and just sit and rock her till she went to sleep.
On Grandma's last birthday before she passed away I mad her a dress, apron and bonnett to match. It was light grey with blue designs in it and I would have like to have it but couldn't find it any where.
Grandma's sister who lived down the street in Claiborne made me a quilt and I still have it put away. Aunt jane had made it from her and grandma's old dresses and pieces of satin material they had collected through the years.
I remember one time we went to some of Mom's relatives over at New Phildelphia and we took Grandma with us. We went to this big Hotel they had and
the people fixed us lunch and we sit around this great big table and the waitress's brought out food. They had Butterscotch pie for dessert. On the way home Grandma made the remark boy was that pie good, I could have ate another piece and Dad asked her why she didn't and her reply was "Truman that meal probably cost a fortune", Dad replied, "No Mother it didn't cost anything" Why didn't you tell me and I would have had another piece.
Grandpa died before I was born, but Grandma said he was a handsome man and very stern and strong. From the pictures I have he was that.

Samuel Murphy, 81, died July 24, 1882. We are called upon to record the death of one of the oldest settlers of this county, one who came here when the country was a wilderness. He was born in Allegheny county, PA., in 1801. Remained there until 1836 at which time he moved to Claibourne township,Union County, Ohio. In the last years of his life he made his home with his neice, Mrs. U.S. Collier. Everyone was familier espaecially our older citizens, with the face of "Uncle Sam" and many will recall years hence, his favorite pioneer stories,of his adventures in the Allegheny's and in this locality,as only he could relate them.
Internment was in the Stony Point Cemetery, in his old neighborhood, and where several of his kins are laid to rest.
Adams, Jason {I2032} (b. 1769, d. 9 JAN 1854)
Note: Jason Adams left an 1847 will mentioning wife Hannah(executor with Joseph Green) but only the children by her plus his son Ebenezer. His 1854 estate showed additionally the children of the earlier marriage (but not Ebenezer); Dingee Adams Duchess Co., and married daughters living in Burling (Berlin delaware Co.) Oh-two married, one a widow and one deceased. jason's widow Hannah Adams 1857 estate papers listed her son Joseph Green her surviving Adams children and her grandchildren (children of those who preceased her). That Jason named two daughters "Hannah" confirmed by the 1862 will of son Elijah which called Lewis Adams "brother" and hanah daly "sister" and made them executors. Unfortunately Hannah (Adams) Daley's death certificate listed the name of her father as A. Adams and her mother's maiden name as Hannah Adams.
