Adams, Gilbert J. {I1501} (b. 1792, d. 2 AUG 1836)
Note: I have a copy of Gilbert J. Adams Will, but it is hard to read because of being so old.
In 1831 Gilbert J. and Hannah (Adams) Adams sold their (now) Putnam Valley land (270 acres) to hannah's father, Jason Adams. Gilbert J. Adams moved to delaware County, Ohio where he purchased land in Berlin from his brother Moses R. Adams and wife Betsy, land originally purchased from Charles Waters (who the widow Hannah married in 1839). LA on Gilbert Adams (1840) to Charles and Hannah waters resulted in a court dispute. In 1844 Hannah Waters, "widow of Charles Waters, late widow of Gilbert J. Adams," Harlow and wife Margaret, and Ann Eliza, Minerva, Julia and Emily of Delaware County, Ohio quit claimed (for $1) 150 acres in Putnam Valley, New York to Jason Adams (recorded both in Putnam County, NY and Delaware county, Oh.)
Gilbert J. Adams burial was Berlin Township House Cemetery, but due to the Alum Creek in Delaware County., the bodies were dug up and moved to Cheshire in a small marked section at the rear called"Berlin Town House Cemetery). Some one had put a new flat tombstone on Gilbert J's grave. We looked for an old stone but run across this newer one. In the cemetery we also found other relatives of the Adams family.
