For nearly two years she has suffered with neuritis and tuberculosis. A few weeks ago after much anxious planning and waiting, she with her mother, moved to Claibourne from their farm in the country. She planned much on getting well and beautifying this new home. The past hot days were to servere for her strength and brought death perhaps a bit sooner than moderate weather would have.
She leaves her mother,Mrs.Rebecca Ellenwood, who has been faithful in caring for her;one sister Mrs. Mary Johnston of Richwood and two brothers Truman and Howard Ellenwood. Besides her Aunts and Uncles who have lent there aid and her many friends.
She rests now from her pain, disappointments and past, she sleeps the onconious sleep of all the dead, a waiting the great day of the resurrection at the last day when christ shall come to judge the world in righteousness.

Uncle fred died May 25, 1985

******************************************************8

Helen's first husband was killed by electrical shock before Frank was born. truman took the children to raise just like they were his own.Frank never seen his father.

Helen Jeannette Douglass was born Lydia Marie Carr daughter of Effie Carr of Delaware. Her mother was not married at time. David Douglass and Sarah
Johnson Douglass adopted her when she was one year old,
David Douglass died in 1937 and he told Mom just before he died that he was her real father. He alleged that he got Effie pregnant when she was doing housework for him and his wife Sarah and there is no way of proving this because all are deceased. The mother would never tell and the courts won't tell. Mom said she was born in an orphange and would die in the old folks home and she did just that. She had had several strokes and was unable to take care of herself and all the children worked at the time of her death.
Mom was a lady who always looked nice but wanted everything her way. She had beautiful long curly red hair when a young lady and always dressed nice and clean and she taught all of us that clean and neat is very important to all of us.She worked at the Magnetic Springs Polio Foundation in Magnetic Springs under Dr.Kenneth Keever.

After the death of Mom a brother -in-law of Fred Kellogg my son-in-law wrote this after going back to my daughter Karen's home.It read as follow;

Dedicated to Gran Ma Ellinwood
God called this week to his child "Come on home my dear, you have nothing to fear, your work on earth is done, you've fought a good fight and in my sight the battle has been won."

You did everything I asked and never complained, you smiled in the good times and smiled when it rained, you always gave first and sought no reward, enriching those around you where ever you tried.

By the worlds standard, your contributions was small, but in my eyes you've always stood tall. There have been others who have received more acclaim, but at the top of my list, I've recorded your name. While many were great no one was greater than you my dear. Your deeds were many and there many each year.

I've asked alot of you and sometimes have been rough, but you made it through, because I made you tough, tough enough to stand the test.

Now I'm calling you home,It's time for a rest. Please don't feel bad for those who remain. You left a strong heritage that will help them sustain."So come on home, your life has been good".

A poor tribute in deed for Gran Ma Ellinwood.

Adams, Thomas {I0535} (b. ABT 1740, d. ABT 1790)
Note: The Putative Adams Brothers of Putnam County, New York

Thomas and Mary Adams were living in frederickstown Putnam Co.,NY (then part of Duchess Co.) at the 1790 census (3-3-5). He paid taxes in Southern Precenct from Feb 1761 to 1771 and in Town of Fredericksburgh 1772-1779. Called "in possession", in 1783 he purchased for 67.16.16 a 270 acre farm "exclusive of pond" in Fredericks burgh Precinct from Roger Morris, evidently one he had held as a tenant though not listed in the tenant list of the loyalist Philipse family. A script map of the sales of forfeited land show Thomas Adams' land lying totally in carmel, including Adams Pond. maps of the mid 1800's list this pond as Lockwood Pond though no Adams to Lockwood sales were ever recorded.

there seemed to be a practice in this family of selling part of one's land to the eldest son, thereby creating funds to allow younger children to migrate. In 1789 Thomas Adams sold 150 acres-"part of the farm I posses"- for 105 to Gilbert Adams (recorded 1794). the rest seems to have gone to Moses Adams who sold some in 1796 ( Gilbert Adams witnessed the deed). There is no further record (no probate, deeds or gravestone). Thomas Adams served as a private in the Duchess 7th militia (a Thomas Adams was listed in Malcolm's Regiment in 1777; he enlisted in the spring, was listed as a prisoner in Peekskill and omitted in Dec.)

Thomas Adams was, from circumstantial evidence, the father.

The 1840 estate papers of Dingee Adams mentioned brothers; Justus Adams of Chautauqua County and Moses and Jason Adams of Duchess County.

A granddaughter of Adah Ann Adams(daughter of gilbert) and Munger Adams (son of Moses) stated that her grandparents were cousins. If they were in fact first cousins, then Gilbert and Moses Adams were brothers.

A Boston Transcript query (1931) asked about the ancestry of John D. Adams, wife Matilda N., of NYC; an 1847 letter from John D. Adams to cousin Thomas mentioned Uncle Justus (father of Thomas), both of Chautauqua Co.,NY. If John D. Adams (son of John and Charlotte) and Thomas Adams (son of Justus) were in fact first cousins then John and Justus Adams were brothers.

Asa Adams, who resided next to jason Adams, was alive but not mentioned in the 1840 estate papers of Dingee Adams (perhaps an omission-see discussion of Dingee Adams, probate). There is no information about how he was related though he obviously was. In 1816 he took Jason Adams to court over a debt (no Mortgage against real property recorded as was customary with a loan). Not incidentally he purchased no land in carmel until 1835 (3 acres) though by 1829 he was in possession of about 87 acres. Therefore he is listed as 17? Asa Adams.

David Adam's father ( perhaps a brother, name unknown) was presumably deceased by 1794. david was the son of Levina or Levinah Youmans, daughter of jacob, presumably the Levinah (Youmans) who married Oliver Woodhill by 1794. David, "of carmel" when he married, has not been linked to the others but these were the only Adams families in Putnam at that time. Therefore he is listed as 181? david Adams (relationship tentative).

Dutchess County New York

East Fishkill--was formed from Fishkill, Nov 29,1849. It is the center town upon the border of the County. Its surface is mountainious in the South and east and hilly in the North and West. The highest points of the Fishkill Mts. in the South are 1000 to 1200 feet., above the tide. The prinicipal streams are the Fishkill and its tributaries, Wortel Kil and Sprout Creek. Black reek, Black Pond is a small sheet of water near the South line. The inrevales along the streams are generally wide, and bordered by steep hillsides in the south., and more gradual slpoes in the north. The soil is a gravely loam. Fatting cattle for the New York market is one of the leading pursuits. East Fishkill,(p.v.) near the center, contains a grist and sawmill and 15 houses.

Fishkill- was formed as a town, March 7,1788. A part of "Freedom"(now La Grange) was taken off in 1821, and East Fishkill in 1849. A part of Philipstown(Putnam Co.) was annexed March 14, 1806. It lies upon the Hudson, in ythe S.W. corner of the County. Its surface is mountainous in the south., and hilly in the north. The Fishkill Mts., extending along the south border, are high rocky and precipitous. Old Beacon and Grand Sachem, in the S.E., corner, the highest summit, are respectively 1471 and 1685 Feet above tide. A break to these mountains, in the east part, opening toward the south, is known as the Wiccopee Pass. The Fishkill flows S.W. through near the center of the town, skirting the foot of the moutains and separating them from the hilly region in the S.W. Wappingers Creek forms the West boundary. A high rolling ridge lies between these two streams, and the highest point is Mt. Hope, 1000 feet above the tide, near the east border. Sprout Creek, a tributary of the ishkill, forms a portion of the east boundary. A series of bluffs, 150 t0 200 feet high, extending along the river, broken by the valleys of the strteams. The soil is a clay and gravely loam.
