Gagnon, Pierre {I003} (b. 14 FEB 1611/12, d. 17 APR 1699)
Note: Pierre was the youngest of 7 children and just 23 years old when he came to Canada and went into business with his brother. Just as the other two, he obtained a concession at Chateau-Richer, between Mathurin his brother and Jean Cachon junior. His was a large grant of 6.5 arpents on the river by 126 arpents deep. On 13 May 1657, Pierre ceded a half arpent of his land to Nicolas Lebel, bordering that of Jean Cachon junior. He took it back on 29 December 1668.
When Pierre was 30 years old, he cast his lot with that of Vincente Desvarieux, daughter of Jean and of Marie Chevalier of Saint Vincent of Aubermail, town of Caux, in Normandy. They had 10 children of which 2 boys and a girl were married. Pierre-Paul was ordained a priest at Quebec in 1677 by Mgr. de Lavel. He was the third Canadian to become a priest. One daughter entered the Convent of the Augustines at the age of 13 years. The Sisters of the Hospital of Quebc, at the death of Marie-Madeleine, which happened in 1677 when she was only 22, wrote this about her. "Veritably, she was comparable to the angels in her purity, her obenience, her spirit of gentleness and peace, and for her devotion." The other children died at an early age. (Laforest, v.1,p. 70-75)
