Ellingwood, Benjamin {I26794} (b. 16 AUG 1728, d. 16 NOV 1775)
Note: Presumably this is the "Benjamin Ellinwood " who in 1762 was tried in Salem for stabbing Jacob Poland, August 16th at Beverly, so that he died. The verdict was manslaughter; the prisoner was sentenced to be burnt in the hand, imprisoned 12 months, and pay costs.
In 1764, having served his term of imprisonment, Benjamin moved to Nova Scotia for a fresh start, settling near Yarmouth as one of the original grantees. He and a John MacKinnon obtained the township grant for Yarmouth at Halifax in 1767 and were paid for their services by the township. Two years later he was one of five appointed to lay out a road from the "Fish Point" to Chegoggin.
Benjamin's will was probated in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, on April 18, 1775. It listed all of the children with the exception of David.
This is from "The Ellinwood Book" written by Leonard Ellinwood 1963
