Robert Hitchborn was a ship-builder by trade. He removed from Boston after the revolution and established a shipyard at Stockton, Maine, where he died 1800. His widow, Susanna, returned to Boston, died there, and is buried at the old graveyard on the Common. One of his ships was on it's way to Boston to be sold when it was lost. On board were two daughter of the owner, Susanna and Elizabeth, one of whom was on her way to Boston to buy her wedding dress. With them were their two nieces, also named Susanna and Elizabeth, who had been to Maine to visit their aunts. All thirty-three persons were lost but one vestige of the craft or passengers was ever discovered - a large trunk, having the initials, S.H., in brass headed nails. That sad memento was found on Cape Ann by the gentleman who was to have become the husband of Susan Hichborn, on her arrival in Boston.

Butler, Eleazer II {I00184} (b. 22 JUN 1763, d. 21 MAR 1857)
Note: Rev. Jonathan Scott's Record of Marriages.
Monday, August 25, 1783. This Day Mr. Eleazar Butler, Junr and Miss Joanna Ellenwood, both of the Town of Yarmouth, after lawful Publishment, were Married, by me, J; Scott.
+++++
On January 15, 1866, seven surviving children of Eleazer II and Joanna (Ellenwood) Butler gathered in a family reunion at the homestead in Hebron. These were Stephen, Robert, Eleazer III, Mrs. Lydia Churchill, Mrs. Lois Durkee, Nathan and Mrs. Joanna Goudey. A report of this meeting, printed in the Yarmouth Herald, was as follows:
For the Yarmouth Herald. A FAMILY VISIT.
In no circle is so much to satisfy as the domestic. No other fraternity can truthfully boast of ties so strong and lasting as the family. There is no spot on earth with more to charm than the old homestead of the family. All this is true to us even to the close of our days. How refreshing in our advanced days, to visit the "lowly home where we were born" - changed though it and we may be, and there to meet those who shared with us in our childhood the same maternal tenderness and paternal providence.
This was the happiness of the survivors of the family of the late Mr. Eleazer Butler, of Hebron, who was one of the oldest inhabitants of this township. They met at the residence of Mr. Nathan Butler, on the old homestead, on the 15th January - There were present: Stephen, aged 83; Robert, aged 79; Eleazer, aged 77; Mrs. Churchill, aged 72; Mrs. Durkee, aged 70; Nathan, aged 68, and Mrs. Goudey, aged 61. Their united ages amounting to 510 years; their average being 73 years.-These are the survivors of a family of eleven.
After spending the day in a very pleasant manner, in which the events of by-gone days were brought up from memory's store, and happy reminiscences of the departed ones were cherished afresh, all joined in a regular old fashioned sing, and then bowing around the old family altar, each commended the others with all their interests to that God who hitherto had sustained and guided them, and in whom all hoped that by His Grace abounding, they should meet in heaven with all the members who had gone before, an unbroken family.

1776 Capt. Eleazar Giles sailed from Beverly in the "Saratoga", with ten guns, and soon after fell in with a fleet of merchantmen, laden with stores, bound from Jamaica for London, four of which he succeeded in capturing. On another cruise he was less successful, falling in with a British vessel of equal or superior force. He gave battle and was compelled to surrender and carried into Halifax. The battle was severe, lossing his brothers Thomas and Benjamin and his brother-in-law Benjamin Ives was wounded. Eleazar himself was wounded in the leg and was obliged to have the limb amputated, twice in one day, below and above the knee.

Capt. Eleazar Giles died in Liverpoot, Nova Scotia in 1809. His funeral was attended by a large number of friends, and people in good standing. Rev. Elisha Williams, Baptist minister of Beverly, was adminstrator on his estate. He was supposed to be the possessor of a large property, but dying abroad, his family were wronged out of it, and little or nothing came to them.
